The wait is over!! DLVSC is now offering ASCLERA™, an exciting new sclerosant recently approved by the FDA. Although approval in the U.S. is new, Polidoconol (the active ingredient in ASCLERA) has actually been used in Europe for over 40 years. The providers at DLVSC have training and experience in performing sclerotherapy treatments with ASCLERA and can achieve optimal results for men and women frustrated by unsightly spider veins and reticular (larger bluish-colored veins). Dr. Munavalli serves on industry advisory boards to discuss the use of Asclera and has lectured on its usage worldwide.
ASCLERA was actually developed as a local anesthetic, making it a virtually painless sclerosant. Yet there is no compromise for comfort - ASCLERA is still highly effective and will not cause any significant damage to surrounding tissue. The benefits are clear, so maybe it's time to get started with ASCLERA and get ready for summer!
How Sclerotherapy Is Performed
The sclerotherapy technique consists of instilling a concentrated chemical solution (such as ASCLERA) into these tiny blood vessels using needles so small that a magnifying glass is required. This solution irritates the inner lining of the blood vessels so that they stop carrying blood and the body slowly replaces them with scar tissue that is invisible on the surface of the skin.
It is also possible to combine sclerotherapy with laser treatments. Dr. Munavalli can help determine if you are a candidate for the use of laser.
Sclerotherapy Recovery
Postoperative discomfort is usually minimal. After a treatment, heavy exercise activities can be resumed in a week. You will always wear fitted support hose for 14 days after treatment sessions, to maximize results.
